I have talked a lot about getting a long term food supply and encouraged you my readers to prep as much as you can. A lot of the pre-prepared items are expensive and sometimes in short supply. So as a note I am going to share the best homemade emergency ration bar recipe I have eve found and you can make it at home.
Survival wafers are good forever seriously as long as they are dry they are edible 5 years 50 years 500 years or 5000 years doesn't matter.
6 cup dry milk powder
3 cup dry oats
1.5 cup brown sugar
.25 cup honey
6-oz dry gelatin flavored or not up to you
1.5 cups nuts your choice or leave them out and sub coconut flour your call, just make sure it is crushed to powder
1 cup dried dehydrated fruit (not candied) and freeze dried is best but dehydrated is ok
5 table spoons of water
Mix all your dry ingredients in a bowl.
Then add your water and honey to a pot and bring to a boil then add the gelatin slowly add the boiled mixture to the dry ingredients a little at a time incorporating slowly (you can add a few table spoons of hot water at the end to get it to come together it should be a dense heavy dough. Then line a cookie sheet with parchment paper and set the ball of dough on parchment paper and roll it out flat and even until it fills up the sheet. Should be between ½ and ¾ inch thick then put it in a preheated oven at 350 degrees for 30-40 minutes until golden brown. Allow to cool completely then cut into bars 8 even bars will be about 500 calories each and 13 grams of protein (it varies by your choice of ingredients) smaller even bars will have less and larger will have more. Then take the cut bars and put them in the dehydrator on the lowest heat setting for 12 hours. After that vacuum seal them in whatever quantities you want dark bags are best but standard clear are ok too this will last forever if the seal isn’t broken. These will still last for years wrapped in foil, placed in zip lock or Mylar bags with o2 absorbers as well just not as long as fully vacuum sealed.
