Welcome, once again, my dear readers, to the asylum. Today, I was reminded of an excellent 2005 film that was based on an earlier work published as a black-and-white serial between 1982 and 1985 and later turned into a limited-edition comic series and an anthology graphic novel by DC Comics in several different editions. This movie is V for Vendetta, and I was struck by how much life truly imitates art (here). If you haven’t seen it, you should and if you have, you should see it again, as it is one of the best movies to be made in the last 30 years.
“There is something terribly wrong with this country, isn’t there? Cruelty and injustice, intolerance and oppression. And where once you had the freedom to object, to think and speak as you saw fit, you now have censors and systems of surveillance coercing your conformity and soliciting your submission. How did this happen? Who’s to blame?"- V for Vendetta
The movie is set in 2020 and tells the story of how a government-engineered pandemic was used to manipulate the public’s fear and usher in a totalitarian regime.
Sound familiar? It should. However, the totalitarian state we in America and those around the world find ourselves in was caused by the exploitation of many emergencies, most government created from the threat of terrorists, financial meltdown, pandemic, and countless other dire emergencies over the years. Global governments have gotten extremely good at employing the Hegelian Dialectic (here) to move society further from freedom and more toward control.
If you are not familiar with the Hegelian Dialectic, it is a method of thought that starts with an agenda (what you want to do), then moves to a thesis (typically a problem to frighten the masses), this triggers an anti-thesis or reaction, and results in synthesis, a desired end state that supports the starting agenda.
An example of this is as follows:
AGENDA - The government desires more control of its population.
THESIS - Terrorist attacks seem like an imminent threat. Note: This is accomplished when the FBI invents fake terrorist attacks or ignores real possible ones, allowing the rare real one to happen (here, here, here, and here).
ANTI-THESIS - More government power is needed to combat terrorists.
SYNTHESIS - More repressive legislation with less oversight of federal police powers. See the PATRIOT Act, Military Commissions Act, and Real ID, to name a few (here, here, and here).
The government, private political advocacy groups, and the mainstream press do this all of the time. Seriously, look at anything covered by the news. It will either be fluff about which useless celebrities are sleeping together or a total misrepresentation of current events carefully engineered to push the public in a specific direction, bypassing critical thought in the process. It is very visible with the “fact checkers” in social media and the MSM, especially their actions on behalf of the government. Note, these are the same fact-checkers that when asked in court claimed to only be expressing their opinions (here). While the fact-checkers are more paid propaganda gatekeepers than even valid opinions (here, here, and here).
In this fact-checking, we see the dialectic:
AGENDA - Discredit or shut down alternative media and citizen reporters.
THESIS - Decry the dangers of false or misinformation.
ANTI-THESIS - Employ fact-checkers.
SYNTHESIS - Removal of free speech unless approved by fact-checkers.
In V for Vendetta all of this is coordinated around color-coded alerts, not different than Home Land Security’s colored threat advisory system (here). Political opponents, free thinkers, and any opposition to the establishment really are locked away, tortured, and executed. While we haven’t reached that scale of abuses in America yet, all of these things have happened to Americans without due process of law or the protection of the Constitution at the hands of the federal government (here, here, and here). Things are much worse in places like the United Kingdom where people are jailed for distasteful comedy, or even less (here, here, and here). The story is the same across the once-free world, as little by little “emergencies” are fabricated or allowed, with the policy solution decided before the event.
In the movie, just as now, there is no public outcry because the public is fully anesthetized with trivialities and entertainment. Seriously, the entire Kardashian phenomenon is the perfect example of peak trivialities and entertainment. This entire family is rich and famous more or less because they were willing to whore out the most intimate details of their lives to a ravening, depraved public. It is unfortunate to see so many people who would rather watch the salacious details of strangers lives or who are so enslaved to the “thrill” of sports that they prioritize their lives with nothing but meaningless garbage that keeps them from doing anything productive.
This constant flow of irrelevance drowns out the warning signs of approaching turmoil that litter the entire landscape of reality and render them numb to the instinctual feeling that something isn’t right. It is horrifying how much the real day-to-day life in the Western world resembles the dystopia of V for Vendetta and how closely our real descent into this borderline totalitarian morass follows the one envisioned in that story.
Some of us are awake and see the danger and it is to us to wake anyone who will listen. We must illustrate the lies, and constantly question, and we must refuse to submit to any more loss of our freedom. We should strive for a world where as V so eloquently put it:
“People shouldn't be afraid of their government. Governments should be afraid of their people.”
― V for Vendetta
Freedom can only exist as long as the government fears the people. In any other state, the people always end up little more than slaves, even if the chains are electronic.
2 Corinthians 3:17
17 Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.
God bless you,
-Sam
